Won't be long now before the aspen begin greening, a good sign winter is over. Winter barely happened at all this year, though, with all but a couple of weeks of daytime temperatures below 50ºF. The oaks (in foreground) won't start budding until May then leaf out sometime in June.
As mild as this winter has been, I can't honestly say I'm ready for spring. These odd weather patterns are discombobulating. Even the birds are confused. No Robber Jays all winter long. No owl hooting down just across the creek as there has been every previous winter I've lived here. A large flock of Canadian Geese were floating on a local pond in mid February and they're still there.
I hope the aspen aren't as confused as the rest of us.
