First snow may fall within a month, sometime in October. That's usually how it goes here. That one is fairly light and melts away within a day or two. Around mid November is when a heavy, long-lasting snowfall happens–a signal that it's time to hunker down a bit for more to come.
Although I wasn't eager at all for more snow anytime soon after the final spring blizzard passed through in the second week of May this year, I am beginning to look forward to having snow around again–rhythm of seasons and moods syncing up, as they always manage to do through some natural process.
